I just realized how expensive the Evo is compared to a WRX. The cheapest WRX is like $26,500 before options and the Evo starts at like $35,000. Damn, maybe there's a reason no one bought one...

Mitsubishi's WRX equivalent is the Lancer Ralliart - the Evo competes with the WRX STI.

The other reason being is that they left all the cool chassis tech like SAYC off of the USDM cars when the Evo 8's were brought over and didn't include them until the bloated pig of the Evo X showed up.
That being said, the STi was a better seller mainly because it was softer sprung and was a little easier to deal with on a daily driver basis. The Evo was a better track day car, however many of the people who could afford them were mainly looking for a fast and capable DD which the STi basically won out due to softer springs and being an all around better car in the NVH department. Capability wise and driving dynamics I'd take the Evo (IX and below) over an STi that we got in the US.
